Thoubal district is an administrative district in the state of Manipur. Thoubal district has a number of historical importance places and other tourist hotspots. Some of them are:
HOW TO REACH
By Road: -The National Highway 39 passes through the district. One can take buses and private vehicles to Thoubal from Imphal.
By Air: -The nearest airport is located in Imphal at a distance if about 21 kms away.
By Rail:- The nearest railway station is the Jiribam Railway Station located 103 kms away.
WHAT TO SEE
Khongjom:-
Khongjom is a historic place located around 10 kms towards the south of Thoubal. It is the place where the last battle for the independence of Manipur was fought in April 1891 against the British army. In March 1891, the British Government declared war in Manipur after the Manipuris killed the Chief Commissioner and his party members. This battle was led by Major General Paona Brajabashi challenging the British army. The battle symbolizes the honorable sacrifice for the motherland.The place has a memorial erected on a small hillock. It is situated around 36 kms from the state capital Imphal along the Indo-Burma road. The state government of Manipur observes a state holiday on 23rd April every year commemorating the bravery of Major General Paona Brajabashi and his army.
Sugnu:
This is an important trading center located towards the south of the Thoubal district on the Imphal-Sugnu state highway. It is located around 74 kms from state capital Imphal and the Imphal River can be beautifully seen from this place.
Waithou:
This is a town popular for its scenic beauty. It is more important for the Waithou Lake located around 16 kms from Imphal on the Indo-Myanmar road.
This lake was once a breeding place for the threatened fish species ‘Ngaton’ and was famous for it. However, after the construction of the Cheksabi barrage during 1970’s, the habitat of the fish vanished from the lake. There is an inspection bungalow on the hillside over looking the Waithou Lake.
The place is also famous for the tasty pineapples. The town of Waithou is located on the National Highway about 3 kms from Thoubal.
SHOPPING:-
 The town also has several market areas where shopping is quite a pleasure. From souvenirs to handicraft and handloom products these bazaars sell it all.
FOOD:-
Typical Manipuri dishes like Eromba which is basically vegetables and potatoes bolied with a lot of red chillies or Umorok with fermented fish, dry fish and mashed together. Singju is a Manipuri salad, Chamthong or Kanhshoi is a stew with fish, Morok Metpa is a coarse-paste prepared with green or dry chillies. One should also try the delicious pork curries and preparation of Bamboo shoots. Sekmai is a traditional brew made from rice. And Mujikul is another local drink.
